2008 South Texas Speedway Official Rules
Pure Stock Rules
PREFACE
- All equipment is subject to approval by South Texas Speedway track officials. Any alterations or modifications from OEM (stock) not specifically allowed in these rules will be considered illegal.
- It is the racer’s responsibility to keep his/her car legal at all times. Equipment having passed through inspection unobserved will not be considered as approved. South Texas Speedway officials may assess weight penalties for cars and/or parts deemed as not in compliance with these rules.
- These rules are written with the intent to make racing at South Texas Speedway as equal as possible and to promote better competition for all participants while attempting to minimize the cost of participation.
- It is ultimately the obligation of each participant to insure that their conduct and equipment comply with all applicable rules, as they may be amended from time to time. No expressed or implied warranty of safety shall result from publication of, or compliance with these rules. They are intended as a guide for the conduct of automobile racing and in no way a guarantee against injury or death to participants or spectators.
COMPETITION MODELS
- Any year model passenger car will be allowed including El Caminos, Rancheros, Station Wagons, etc. No sports cars of any type will be allowed in this class including but not limited to camaros, firebirds, trans am, corvettes, etc. The vehicles must remain completely stock.
BODY REQUIREMENTS
- All glass must be removed.Windshield may be replaced with a minimum of 4 equally spaced metals bars in front of the driver.
- All the following must be removed: carpet, mats, seats, all chrome trim inside and out, headliner, all plastics and any sharp objects.
- All doors must be welded, bolted, or chained shut.
- Firewalls and floorplan must remain stock.
- All holes in the drivers compartment must be properly blocked to avoid debris from entering the drivers area.
- Body can be mounted directly to frame. Rubber body mounts can be removed.
- Bumper must be welded solid.
- Fenders may be trimmed for tire clearance. Front fender wells can be removed.
- Hood, doors, and trunk may be gutted. (We recommended leaving the factory door bar in for added protection)
- Hood and trunk hinges must be removed and hood / trunk pins are required. (No bolting)
- An aftermarket nosepiece and tailpiece may be used as a replacement for the OEM stock pieces.
ROLL CAGES
- Roll cage must be 4-post, full perimeter type design and be mounted on the center of the track width. Roll cage Tubing must be mild steel tubing no less than 1 1/2" diameter and .095" in thickness. No threaded joints allowed and all tubing in driver’s compartment must have gussets.
- Roll Cage must be welded to the frame. No bolted or body mounted cages.
- Driver door bars must be as parallel as possible and located perpendicular to the driver to provide maximum protection for the driver. A minimum of 3 door bars not including the frame is required on the driver’s side. (More is recommended.) Passenger side door bars OK.
- Driver’s head must not protrude above cage with helmet on and strapped into car. Welded steel plate above driver’s head is recommended.
- A driver's foot protection bar is OK.
- All bars inside driver’s compartment must be padded.
WINDOW NET / ARM RESTRAINTS
- All cars must have a window net or the driver must wear arm restaints.
SEAT
- Factory manufactured metal racing bucket seat or original stock seat is allowed. If stock seat is used a rear impact brace must be installed.
SEAT BELTS
- Three (3) inch lap belt is mandatory. Both ends of the lap belt must be fastened to the roll cage or frame with high quality minimum 3/8-inch diameter bolts.
- Shoulder harness must not be less than three (3) inches wide and must come from behind drivers seat. Ends must be fastened to the roll cage or frame with high quality minimum 3/8-inch diameter bolts.
- A center crotch belt must be securely mounted to the lower seat frame at the bottom and to the lap belt at the top. Where belts pass through the seat edges or seat metal, there must be a grommet installed, be rolled, and /or padded to prevent cutting and chaffing of belts. All seat belts and shoulder harnesses must connect at the lap belt with an approved quick release buckle.
TIRES AND WHEELS
- Hoosier G60, American Racer G60, or Southwest Speed Racing Tire 26.0x8.0x15 (60 compound), or D.O.T. approved street tires with the max. size being P 235/70/15 series. Tires may be grooved.
- Wheels will measure no more than 8" width bead to bead. White spokes or stock rims are o.k.
- It is recommended to change the wheel studs to at least 1/2" diameter.
- The eight inch wheels sold by Bassett, Bart, Aero etc. are allowed with any offset.
- One Bead lock will be allowed, it can be used any where on the car.
- All tires do not have to match in size.
- Wheel spacers are allowed.
SUSPENSION
- All springs must be mounted in the factory stock mountings, without modification to the mount.
- Any racing spring is allowed but they must be identical between the left and right. No tolerance is allowed.
- No spring spacers allowed of any type.
- Only stock shocks allowed. (NO AFTERMARKET STOCK MOUNT SHOCKS! NO EXCEPTIONS!)
- The right front A-arm bolts may be replaced to allow camber in the right front wheel. The shock mount bolt can be cut off but no cutting of the A-frame.
- Each UPPER CONTROL ARM must be a factory stock control arm and in the factory installed position and on the stock mounts, except that spacers may be used to adjust the wheel camber and castor.
- Each LOWER CONTROL ARM must be a factory stock control arm and mounted in the factory stock position on the front clip/frame.
REAREND
- Rear ends must remain stock for that car. No changing of mounting.
- Rear ends may be locked.
- Any model of steel gear may be used with any ratio.
WEIGHT
- Minimum weight of 3300lbs, after race, with driver. (No Fuel Top off)
- Lead boxes can be welded to the frame rails for securing lead inside.
ADDED CAR WEIGHT
- All added weight must be painted white with the car number in a contrasting color and must be bolted to the frame with two (2) bolts, ½ inch minimum diameter. Must be in block form, not less than 10 lbs. (No Pellets). Ballast weights are not allowed in driver’s compartment.
ENGINES
- All engines must remain in the stock location.
- All engines must remain stock for that car (GM to GM, Ford to Ford, Chrysler to Chrysler.)
- Engine blocks may be bored for cleanup and repair purposes. All engine sizes must be registered with tech and if any changes are made, tech must be notified.
- All engines must have a stock stroke of 3.48.
- Pistons and Rods must be stock type. Pistons must be 4 valve relief.
- Engine must be chained down or have the mounts welded.
- Removal of accessories such as A/C, power steering, emissions, etc. will be allowed.
CYLINDER HEADS
- Cast iron OEM production straight plug heads only.No stud girdles. No closed chamber heads. No fuelie heads.68cc minimum combustion chamber size.
- Poly locks OK.
- 305 head must run dished piston with 305 block.
- Head studs may be pinned or screw type no larger than 3/8". Guide plates OK.
- No porting or polishing. No angle milling.
- Maximum valve size of 1.94 intake and 1.5 exhaust.
- Rockers arms must be stock type and have a 1.5 ratio.
- No Roller Rocker arms, rocker arms must be stock, no slotted rockers.
- ALL COMPONENTS IN HEADS MUST REMAIN STOCK! NO EXCEPTIONS!
IGNITION SYSTEM
- Stock ignition systems only.
- No aftermarket parts whatsoever.
INTAKE MANIFOLDS
- All intake manifolds must remain stock unaltered in any way.
- No aluminum or marine type manifolds allowed.
- No gasket matching or porting.
- No aftermarket Intakes allowed.
CAMSHAFT / TIMING
- Only steel hydraulic lifters of stock size and weight will be allowed.
- Only OEM stock type timing gears and chain allowed.
COOLING SYSTEM
- Aluminum radiator and pulleys are allowed.
- Water pumps must be stock, no aluminum water pumps.
- NO electric fans!
CARBURETORS
- Stock carburetors or Holley 4412 500cfm 2bbl only.
- The choke may be removed but all screw holes must be permanently sealed.
- Two (2) return springs are required.
EXHAUST
- Stock exhaust Manifolds only.
- No header of any type.
- No gasket matching or porting.
- No hi-performance exhaust systems.
BATTERY
- Battery may be moved but must be totally enclosed and mounted securely.
TRANSMISSIONS
- Standard or Automatic transmissions OK.
- Drive Shaft must be steel and painted white.
- If standard transmission is used the Clutch, pressure plate, and flywheel must be stock. No aluminum or lightened parts.
BRAKES
- 4 Wheel brakes are mandatory and must be functional at all times with no modifications.
- No cutting on brake pads allowed.
FUEL
- Pump gasoline or racing fuel.
- No alcohol, methanol, or nitrous oxide.
- No fuel additives.
FUEL CELLS / TANKS - LINES
- All fuel cells / tanks must be located in the trunk of the car.
- Fuel cells / tanks cannot be larger than 12 gallons.
- Fuel cell / tank must be securely mounted to rear frame.
- All fuel lines must be routed outside of the drivers compartment.
FIRE EXTINGUISHERS
- Fire extinguishers are recommended in the drivers compartment within the reach of the driver.
OFFICIAL RULINGS
- Officials reserve the right to make final decisions in the interpretation of any rules or race procedures at any time. No equipment will be considered as having been approved by reason of having passed through inspection unobserved.
